My Students
Our school is built on diversity from the students we teach to the the topics that are explored in our inquiry based classrooms. I love watching our students dive into learning about new topics and different perspectives! They bring energy and enthusiasm to each and every day as well as a desire to do their very best!
We are honored to serve a population of students who come from many countries, speak several languages, and learn in many different ways.
This diversity is one of our biggest strengths as a school community and makes our school a special place for students to learn and grow. Our goal is to encourage students and guide them as they develop unique skills and perspectives that allow them to be successful inside and outside of the classroom setting.
My Project
As a diverse school community with students from many different life situations and backgrounds, conversations about tolerance, empathy, acceptance, and inclusion are more important than ever. Our students all have unique experiences to tell and share with their peers and teachers. They have amazing stories to teach us and important lessons to learn from each other.
This project will help me to expand my learning library with books that celebrate and teach about the beauty and importance of different races, ethnicities, gender identities, family structures, and ability levels!
This project will also allow students to share their own unique stories and perspectives through the use of art, storytelling, poetry, and collaborative class projects. These books and materials will be used when working with students individually, in small group settings, and whole class lessons.
For the past few years as a School Social Worker I have spent time in classrooms teaching about bully prevention and the importance of kindness, but we have to dig deeper and move towards more courageous conversations about who we are, what bias' we hold, and how we can work together to make this world a better place. Our students are up for the challenge and I am ready to walk alongside them!
