These four and five-year-old pre-kindergarten students have a large range of backgrounds. Some of my students are English language learners. All students, including those with special needs, thrive from hands-on, engaging experiences. These interactive experiences give all students purposeful, memorable learning experience. Students learn through active play! Keeping students up and engaged is key. I yearn for all my students to take away a true love for learning and a deep understanding of academic goals and skills.
My Project
Teaching just the one sound each letter has is one-dimensional. Think about it, the sounds letters say when they get together in words are the least likely sounds that we teach children with our alphabet. Just one example, letter "Y" so often says many different sounds in words like "today", "by", "January", "May", and "boy." Wow, that info is a bit mind-blowing and so confusing to students just learning the sounds!
We need to teach students the "secrets" to why these letters do not always make "their sound." The "Secret Sounds" classroom kit and flashcards are exactly what we need to succeed!
They have fun stories for each sound that letters make together to help students learn phonics patterns that are so important to their reading success.
Not only are these stories the perfect way to tap into the emotional brain to learn how to read, but these stories tap those emotions in a way that will encourage important social conversations about kindness and treating others equally. These stories pull the emotional heartstrings of students to help them relate. This will prompt an important discussion about inclusion and diversity.
The Heggerty Purple book is an amazing resource for introducing Pre-K students to language pay through nursery rhymes. With this successful phonemic awareness resource, students will leave Pre-K with the skills they need for building much needed phonemic awareness skills to prepare them for reading. I am so excited to give my students the "secrets" they need to succeed and read!
