My students need 30 copies of "Night" by Elie Wiesel.

I teach 8th grade English in Mississippi. The Mississippi Delta is an economically-challenged area where students are confronted with harsh realities before they even step foot in the school for the day. Teacher's resources are few, but our responsibilities are many. We simply need all the help we can get.
Living in a predominantly African-American community, my students face discrimination every day. Imagine their surprise when they learned of the discrimination and attempted extermination of an entire race of people during the twentieth century--the Jewish people. Their thirst to know more about the Holocaust and most importantly, to understand how many Jews survived the hatred of so many people is overwhelming. I desperately desire to give them a better understanding of the human spirit and the will to survive amid unbearable conditions.
Night by Elie Wiesel is an extraordinary account of a young man's journey through one of the darkest times in the history of the world. His tale of survival is almost unbelievable. However, it is a tale that my students will never forget.
Your generosity will open my students' eyes to a bigger world. My students' struggle to make it through the day is a stark reality. Wiesel's journey is one of despair, determination, perseverance, and ultimately, success. You have the opportunity to show my students what life really can be despite the hardships--a success.
