Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just plain awesome! Regardless of their daily struggles they always prove to persevere! For many of my students, our classroom is their second home, even as uts moved into the virtual world. It is their safe space where they can escape the many pressures of adolescence and just be themselves.
Rather than the easy route of giving up, they choose to come together, to push themselves and to persevere, no matter how far they are behind academically.
They are dedicated students who continuously push themselves to be better.
100% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Once you get them excited about a topic or strategy, they are totally engaged in what we are doing. I want to give them that spark for all that they do, which will become a challenge as we transition to the remote setting. My goal is to set them up for success by providing them with the tools they need to access the curriculum effectively at home during the global pandemic.
My Project
This project has lots of differentiated crafting materials for my middle school students. I will be sorting, packaging and bring the material kits to students home during remote learning.
We will use our Advisory class period to support each other in creating holiday decorations and cards for a local nursing home.
COVID-19 has created a challenge for those in nursing homes and for their families. When our class heard that a local nursing home was looking for holiday cards and decor, my students sprung into action with hopes of helping.
These materials will assure that all students in grade 6 and 8 will be able to create some decor since it will provide everyone with needed materials
Nearly all students from low‑income households
