Teen Truth: You Are Not Alone

Help me give my students resources through engaging storytelling, real world examples, and audience participation to identify different forms of teenage problems, motivating students to be leaders making the difference on campus and in life.

My Students

Our students are fantastic learners who have been through so much in the last few years. Like students across the country, they've been resilient and brave through a myriad of changes that are out of their control. We've done our best to show students that they aren't alone and to give them tools and strategies to deal with the variety of emotions they've been feeling, but we need to do more.

Like many others, sometimes our students feel that they are alone or that they are the only ones struggling.

We are looking for ways to teach them that they are enough, and we are in this together. We want our students to continue to be the brave, thoughtful, risk-taking learners we've come to know and love.

My Project

Through our TEEN TRUTH presentation and Leadership Summit, we hope to see an increase in our Social-Emotional data, specifically in self-efficacy, social awareness, sense of belonging, and school safety. These are areas where we are slowly improving, but we’d like to see larger gains in our students, especially in these areas. Moving through the challenges and changes of the last few years has been difficult for everyone, but we are realizing that our students are dealing with more stress than we originally predicted, and we hope that this program and the focus on school culture will curb some of the behaviors and attitudes we are seeing in our students. We also hope to see a smoother transition with our incoming 6th grade class, who will participate in the program as 5th graders and have a stronger sense of and investment in the culture at BLMS before beginning middle school.
