My Students

Our students are diverse, curious, active teenagers with a wide variety of interests, and they come from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. Some of our students will go on to attend technical schools to train in specific skills, some will go in to the military, and others will go on to community colleges and four year universities.

Most of them enjoy reading, especially if they find books that speak to them.

They also love participating in the Virginia Readers' Choice Program, and they frequently share the books they love with their friends.

My Project

Having multiple copies of the books that have been nominated for the 2019-2020 Virginia Readers' Choice Award will make it possible for more students to participate in reading the books and voting for the award. The books cover a wide range of genres and always provide us with opportunities to get students excited about reading. We share these books during library orientations and as part of our classroom booktalks. Many faculty members also read the nominated books and encourage students to read them. We all know that the more students read the better they are at reading. These books will help them improve their vocabularies, writing skills, background knowledge, and be better citizens.
