My Students

When you were a kid, you had to go to the library to find information for research or to learn something new. Today, information is at your fingertips and students are using their fingertips now more than ever to learn using tablets in the classroom.

This year I have 24 fifth grade students with a wide range of abilities in a Chicago public school.

Some students excel at reading while others struggle in math. They are diverse learners and I am eager to get to know them and what they need to succeed in school. My school is like a second home; not just for me but for everyone who is a part of it including teachers, staff and students. Chicago Public Schools are known for their large class sizes, but fortunately, my class is a decent size this year. My classroom is a welcoming place for students to learn and grow.

My Project

I teach my students to work both collaboratively and independently as fifth grade students. Receiving four iPads with covers in the classroom can enhance their learning experiences in every subject. Students can use apps to practice math skills through games, do research in science and social studies and even animate characters created for their writing! Using iPads in the classroom motivates students to learn. Students can listen to books, read countless magazines and can have a multitude of both fiction and nonfiction reading sources through apps and the Internet. Students can also go on virtual field trips, do interactive writing activities and even create music! There are countless apps for students and teachers that will help students learn and enhance their learning experience.

Donations to receive four iPads to this project will improve my classroom in many ways.

Students will learn to be independent learners since they can use the iPads independently. On the flip side, if students are using an iPad in a collaborative group, they will learn to work together and share materials and information. iPads in the classroom will change my students' lives for the better since they will be learning to learn on this technology, not just use it for entertainment purposes.
