My students need an Amazon Echo and voice remote to pair with technology that the teacher has purchased for our classroom.

My Students
"What?" "Can you turn it up?" "I don't have a way to present my project." These are common phrases heard every time I use my laptop or iPad in my classroom. What if there were a tool to help students not only hear but learn too? What if students had access to technology that was truly interactive?
Classes at our school are very large; 30 to 34 students packed into classrooms built in the early 1960s.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic regions. Each day, I am unsure if ALL students will have access to the internet via a mobile device or if they will need money for lunch. Some classes are filled with students who have every technological device available while others do not have access to the internet outside of school.
Our school, the largest in our district, does well to provide technological devices with the very small budget allotted by our state. However, often there is very little left for each classroom teacher to have his/her own, resulting in the sharing of technology. The end result is overused devices that need repairs that are not part of the budget. Many of my colleagues and I purchase as much as we can for our own classrooms, but these funds are often not enough.
My Project
The Amazon Echo and voice remote are much more than just an audio device. They sync with my iPad, Apple TV, and with most mobile devices. I will be able to not only connect audiobooks and presentations to it, but students will also be able to use it from their seats to give presentations, share their writing, ask questions, conduct research, etc.
I will also be able to use the device as a timer for students, and it will serve as a homework reminder, syncing assignments with students' Google Calendar and reminding students of their assignments/daily work.
The new technology offered through additional free applications for wireless devices is releasing more capabilities each day.
For this reason alone, the investment is one that will last much longer than just one year.
Students will be greatly impacted by interacting with similar technology found on university campuses. Using this device will help them be prepared for their futures and will enable students to have equal access to technology.
