This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A quote posted in my classroom is from Benjamin Franklin, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” My goal is to strive for innovative methods to involve my students in engaging activities using technology while researching quality and challenging projects.

My classroom has sometimes been described as organized chaos with students moving around solving math problems, examining maps or globes or delving into a new book with their literature group.

This is group of curious and eager 4th graders, who continually have countless questions about the different topics we discuss. My students come from diverse backgrounds and I try to continually instill that knowledge is power and gives the opportunity for each of them to explore many different possibilities for their future. Our students qualify for 100% for Free and Reduced Price Meals. Many of our students families are economically at risk and many students only have access to limited technology offered on a parents phone. They are eager to unearth information on computers, learn research skills, have the ability to use programs that reinforce skills for struggling students or provide an opportunity for my advanced students to access the Internet for activities to stretch their abilities

My Project

My students will be using this Chromebook station (with chromebooks, storage station and management console) daily as a tool to research, analyze and read information for different social studies projects. It will also serve as an enrichment tool for struggling students who need extra practice on a math or reading skill or an advanced student who needs to stretch their abilities during math and reading blocks. The ability to open new windows to the world, for my students to question and discover information would be invaluable. The mere mention of using technology for a project immediately sparks interest within my students. The use of technology creates an atmosphere of curiosity and excitement about the learning process. The ever growing availability of researched based applications that support student learning is an important piece of education for my students. My students are anxious to learn different ways of using technology to enhance projects by creating a PowerPoint to present a book report or report on Arizona.

The ability to experience how to use the Internet for education is imperative for our students to compete equally with schools less financially challenged.

It is important to offer new ideas to challenge and keep my students engaged in rich and rigorous activities that excite and motivate them daily. The use of a Chromebook station would enrich all the different subject areas I teach. Students will now suddenly have the ability to expand their knowledge through technology at school.
