Finally-a new computer! That's right, my classroom just got our first computer. I teach 2nd grade language arts and math in a high-need urban setting.
My students are frequently without the supplies that they need-especially technology. We have very luckily just gotten our first computer, and the class is so excited to use it. Three students have begun working on WebQuests.
In order for more of my students to be prepared for the WebQuests, we need multiple copies of the texts that go along with them. We have already begun WebQuests on A House for Hermit Crab and Dinosaurs before Dark. The students have a strong interest in Martin Luther King Jr. and could use those texts to do an informational WebQuest. Also, some of my students are performing below grade level. Computer software would get them more motivated to practice their basic math and phonics skills, including addition/subtraction facts, fraction, and letter sounds.
I had originally begun a proposal to donorschoose for a classroom computer. Then, to my surprise, one showed up at my door. Any additional materials to make my students' learning on our new technology more meaningful would be very appreciated.
