My students need a whiteboard with a stand and interactive materials for the board. This includes a carrying case to transfer the capabilities to various rooms at our school and other locations.
Have you ever struggled to take notes while in a classroom setting?
I teach in a high-need community, at a small charter high school. I am a special education teacher working with students between 14 and 21 years old, who have cognitive disabilities. Our district is facing tremendous budget cuts so our school has put funding towards paying teachers and are cutting back on supplies.
Talk about lack of supplies - I currently am using a chalkboard that has a gouge in the middle. We have very little technology to expose the students to. I am supposed to prepare these students for post secondary life, but I don't have the technology to expose them to. Whether you are in a university or at a restaurant, the technology used is an interactive white board.
Getting this whiteboard would be a step up so that my students are able to read what I write on the board without anything disrupting the writing in the middle of the board. But this board can be so much more than that. I would be able to hook up the board so that my students can create interactive presentations. For example, they could give a weather forecast with the charts and radar on the screen behind them just like in a studio. I can video conference my whole class to other classrooms across the country and world. This particular proposal includes a function that I can capture everything written on the board and e-mail the students the page as an attachment, so the focus isn't on taking notes but on processing what the teacher is saying. In addition to these wonderful features, the interactive part of the system is easily transferred to any whiteboard, so no matter what room in the school we get pushed to, I can set-up with the interactive technology. The possibilities are endless!
The amount of learning that will occur because of your donation is exponential! I can't even begin to explain how tremendous this resource would be in helping my students move forward toward graduation and their post-secondary goals.
