Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at P. V. Elementary School are from a very diverse background, but a majority are of lower income. 86% of the students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. About half of the students are native Spanish speakers and a majority stay in the school for their entire K-8 career. Almost all families are employed by the wine industry, but the school receives little or no support from that industry.

The community is in the rural northeastern part of Napa County and is seldom visited or considered by other parts of the county's residents.

Dining and shopping by residents in the area is mostly done in Napa, about an hour's drive.

The school is in the process of starting a major renovation project and new technology resources for the newly remodeled classes are desperately needed as the remodeling itself is over budget.

My Project

P. V. Elementary School teachers and students would benefit from the use of document cameras to complement classroom LCD projectors. In addition, the school would like to begin 3D printing projects in the upper grades that are supported by coding projects in all grades.

Using Chromebooks, and as students begin coding in the lower grades, they will begin to transfer those skills to design work with the Dremel printer.

Teachers will begin using the Elmo document cameras in their education, taking advantage of the incredible zoom function for science lessons, as well as demonstrations, language and note-taking skills, and collaborative activities.
