Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from challenging home lives and backgrounds and I try my very best to make school a place that they love. Every day they walk into class with smiles on their faces, ready to learn, but that can be difficult when we are lacking the basic necessities. Our school is very large, with over 1000 students. The majority of my students are English language learners. They come from a variety of backgrounds and many come from hard working families. All students receive district funded breakfast and lunch, because we are in a low-income neighborhood. Even with all of these obstacles, my students are motivated, caring and interested in learning. They love science and computers and reading non-fiction books. They know the importance of their education and are successfully beginning their academic careers.

My Project

Our current computers are out of date and no longer being updated. Because of this, my students are unable to access many educational websites such as Raz-Kids.com. A new iPad would allow my students to access those website and provided new access to many educational apps.

Each of my students needs personal headphones to use with the iPad during technology and literacy centers without being disrupted by classroom noises.

By using technology at a young age, my students will become familiar with using a keyboard and navigating a computer. I believe that using this technology will help support letters and sound recognition, high frequency word use, counting and number recognition.
