Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school each day ready to learn and are truly excited to be there.
My students are loving, amazing kids who truly want to learn!
They love sports, to dance, to read, and to work on computers. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire these kids and set them up for success in middle school, high school, and beyond.
My Project
My students are truly amazing kids! They LOVE to learn and they LOVE technology. Just recently my classroom received a grant for 1:1 Chromebooks! Amazing! We are so incredibly happy! Now we need headphones and speakers to bring our classroom a much-needed technology upgrade! Right now, we are responsible for our own technology accessories. I have purchased so many cheap headphones that just keep breaking after one use! It's frustrating to the kids. The classroom should not be a place of frustration. My kids deserve better! They deserve quality technology, that doesn't break and can withstand an 11 year old!
