This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach AP Statistics at the school I am at, which is a very high level math class. Each student needs to have access to a graphing calculator, specifically an actual one for their AP Exam. This calculator is used during class, on homework, and during tests. It is important that each student has access to a calculator as they are learning skills which will improve their opportunity to be successful on our AP Exam in the spring. Calculator efficiency can improve a student's confidence on any exam. Graphing calculators are expensive, so some students are unable to purchase them. Students who currently do not have a graphing calculator use their phone, but phones are not allowed to be used on an AP Exam. If they cannot afford to purchase a graphing calculator of their own before AP Exams, they will be using an unfamiliar device come time for the exam. The addition of this technology update to my classroom would increase the amount of students using a proper device and help them gain needed practice time with a tool which will be imperative to success in the future.
