I currently teach 9th-12th graders following the Occupational Course of Study. This means that in addition to academics, my students are focusing their time in school on preparing for life after high school.
All of my students have unique learning needs, but through hands on learning opportunities in the classroom & community, my students are better prepared to become active citizens in our community.
All of my students participate in jobs around our school and in the community as part of their requirements for graduation. We work daily on improving reading comprehension, writing, and basic mathematics. We also practice interviewing skills, completing job applications, cooking, cleaning, and money management; the real stuff!
My Project
Please help me provide my students access to the individual technology they deserve! Currently my students have to travel to check out Chromebooks within the school building which ultimately takes away from instructional time due to many of the students struggling with unstructured changes to our daily schedule.
My students need to be able to access a variety of programs daily in order to improve their reading, writing, math, and vocational skills.
Having access to Chromebooks daily would not only support my students' daily academics, but would also help them access more programs to help them reach their Individualized Education Plan goals, as the majority of them perform significantly below grade level.
My students not only use Chromebooks to support their learning needs, but they also use them to create a work portfolio that they can take upon graduation to obtain competitive employment. We spend time alot of time on Chromebooks building resumes, practicing completing job applications, participating in mock interviews, and learning to navigate online job searches.
