This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hardworking, young people that come largely from lower-middle-class households. Each and every day I can't help but marvel at their effort and drive to succeed. These are kids that come early and stay late multiple days a week for tutoring, clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities. More than anything else, my students are funny, loving, respectful, appreciative, responsible, and kind.

These students genuinely deserve so much more than they are allotted by public education budgets.

I do everything I can to help these highly deserving students, but some projects are just too big to self-fund. Your assistance in supporting public school education would be greatly appreciated.

My Project

For the last several years, there was a television in my classroom that students could connect to their computer when giving presentations to their peers. Unfortunately, last year the television stopped working and that option was no longer available to my learners. I am hoping to get a new television to replace the broken one so my students can get back to sharing their work with peers whenever possible.

Additionally, having a presentation device in the classroom has promoted differentiated instruction in my classroom.

This year I am teaching a coding and robotics class and I have adopted a badge system to individualize the learning process for each student. As part of the program, I offer weekly workshops that students can attend to level up in the areas where their skills are not yet developed. A working television is critical to this vision of small group differentiated instruction, especially when you consider that it is a coding and robotics class. The old television sat directly above one of our robotics fields and would have allowed for small groups of students to grapple with coding concepts and test their codes out in real-time. I am hoping that I can replace the old TV so that this vision can become a reality for my amazing learners.
