This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I truly believe every child can learn when they have all the resources needed for effective instruction and quality learning. Children who do not have the educational tools they need, cannot perform at their optimal level. It is challenging to achieve educational equity in low-income communities. Please help me to stop this cycle that hurts society and limits opportunities for students from under-resourced schools.

I would like to give my students one classroom tablet so they can have access to educational software for literacy practice of foundational skills.

When working on a computer, students can work on their own academic level allowing them to advance their skills and meet grade level standards. I will use the tablet as an incentive for students during literacy lab. During this time, I am teaching a small group of children while the rest of the class engages in literacy independent practice. The tablet will be used in a rotation system so students can work in small groups completing literacy lessons that will advance their reading skills. Each day of the week, one small group will have access to the tablet.

Every student should receive the resources necessary for them to acquire literacy skills. If some children need more to achieve educational success, they should receive it. We need to make sure that personal and social circumstances are not obstacles holding back children in high-need schools. Thank you for your generosity!
