Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Projects can be fun or monotonous! We have all had that project that we enjoyed doing and was worth our time, and we have all had that project that really felt like a waste. My students love YouTube and TeacherTube so why not create video projects about what is in our North Carolina curriculum?
I teach in a 5th grade Talent Development (TD) classroom (otherwise known as gifted and talented students).
Demographically the school is 93% free and reduced lunch. The students do not get their experiences from travel and outside worldly activities. As their teacher, it is my goal to provide them with every experience I possibly can. Science is a phenomenal way I can facilitate those real-life experiences.
My Project
My students and even myself need a change of pace. A lot of what we do in our class is project-based with a creativist point of view. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to display/present our information. The poster board is getting a little outdated, and it is time for an upgrade! We are starting small asking for the video recorder and tripod to help us create our video projects. We will make due with our "outdated" computers for now and slowly build up. We will be using the video camera to create educational videos about certain topics in our curriculum.
We eventually hope to upload the videos to an educational resource such as TeacherTube or YouTube.
By creating these video projects, it forces the students to learn the salient information about what they are presenting in a fun, up-to-date way.
