This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a unique set of kids. They are from a diverse background, but many live in the same residential area. Our school is a Title I school in the heart of Atlanta. We work hard to ensure that we are giving our students our best by helping them to establish standards of hard work and character.
The students I teach often come to school with elaborate stories of poverty and violence, but they never falter or waiver in effort in spite of everything that they observe.
They have an internal desire to succeed, which keeps me motivated and enthused as an educator.
My desire to help them succeed helps me excel at my job.
My goal as the school media specialist/librarian is to provide the scholars we teach with as many resources to succeed inside and outside the classroom.
My Project
The students in my school always show excitement when it comes to reading. Visiting the library is a time of joy because the scholars have an opportunity to select books to read; during this time, they also engage in storytime where the media specialist reads to them.
During library visits, students have an opportunity to showcase their reading skills.
While some students have exceptional reading skills, others do not; however, the level of enthusiasm shown by both groups never quails.
After noticing the need for improvement, many of my students can benefit from hearing more words. A way to ensure that the pupils are exposed to more vocabulary is to give them more opportunities to read.
In the library, the students read e-books and test over the content to help increase their reading ability. By providing headphones during online reading activities, students can practice reading along with the narrator, hear more words, and increase their reading level.
