Ms. Jargiello from Buffalo NY is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need headphones. We have 10 iPads in our classroom- but few headphones and they are in bad shape. A document reader is also necessary to share their projects and published writing pieces.

The students I am working with this year are second graders. I was a reading specialist/writing consultant for ten years and last year, I returned to being a classroom teacher and I am thrilled. My second graders last year, as well as this year, are a very diverse group. Their cultural backgrounds are American, Bengali, Somalian and Burmese, Arabic. They are happy children and eager to learn. They want their brains to grow. We talk about it daily! When they finish class assignments, they raise their hands and say, "May I find something productive to do?" We talk about being productive every minute. My students run their classroom. I know if I ever wasn't able to be in the classroom, they know where everything is and could execute the school day because it is their classroom. Most of my students' families face economic hardships and poverty, and little life experiences, but these children come to school and are ready to learn every day. Their academic abilities range. Some of the students speak limited English. But, regardless of their differing abilities, ALL of my students are excited and motivated to learn.
Each student works at his or her own ability. The leveled online programs students access are all aligned to individual student needs. With new headphones, students will be able to hear their specific lessons without being distracted by others or without being distracting to others.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners (English is a New Language Learners).
It is imperative that my students have access to audio on all devices. They need to hear the English Language whenever possible to help them acquire the language at a faster rate.
Students will use a document reader to share their work with their peers. They need the opportunity to speak with confidence and express themselves while taking pride in their writing and created projects. A document reader will provide them with a platform to share with their classmates.
A document reader will also be the perfect place for students to provide productive feedback about peers work which will be viewed via the document reader. I have used a document reader with students in the past- they absolutely loved using this technology. Unfortunately, our document reader broke and we are in need of a new one.
