This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class consist of 8 boys. The boys start each day with a free healthy breakfast. We meet as a community on the carpet and greet one another. Since each child wants to be acknowledged, we take turns sharing at this time. Behavior is a challenge and the students benefit from meeting as a community.
My Project
My students are minority students that live in the inner city of the South Bronx. These children are in a special education program since they struggle with emotional issues. Many of the children have been in the foster care system and live in dysfunctional families. Our school makes every effort to meet all the needs of the children. From the basic need of food to the higher needs such as learning. In order to help these young children to make a positive impact to their community, we are doing our best to teach social skills, coping skills and academic skills.
