My Students
Being a teacher in a school with high poverty rates presents many challenges. In addition, my students have intellectual disabilities or are on the Autism Spectrum. They have academic and behavioral needs that can be difficult to meet using what is provided in the traditional classroom.
My students are unique and curious people.
They require individualized learning opportunities to acquire skills that may come easier to their typical same-aged peers.
Students with Autism often require individualized behavior plans within which a teacher must identify motivators for the students to earn. My students absolutely love to have opportunities to use technology independently.
My Project
In order to provide individualized and engaging learning opportunities, my students would benefit from having access to tablets on a daily basis. Multi-sensory learning opportunities are vital for students with Autism as it can be difficult to meet their needs through traditional methods of instruction. Many activities within the classroom require small and/or individual groupings, which are difficult to manage with limited teachers and materials. Providing students with tablets can help create highly-motivating, self-guided learning opportunities within the school day. Often times students with autism or intellectual disabilities do not have the skills or opportunities to complete tasks without support. These six tablets would make this possible.
