This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from working class families and families in poverty. They haven't had as many opportunities or access to resources as children from higher socioeconomic families have had. Most didn't attend preschool or head start. Most also come from single parent homes, multi-family living arrangements, or homes where they are being raised by a grandparent or other family member. But before long, my students love school and they thrive! They get so excited about the simplest activities! They are easy to please, even when the activity or gift they are given seems minor compared to children who are used to being given more. They often say that it was their best day!

Teaching my students is difficult because I can't change their home lives and because they come in "behind" students who have attended preschool, but it is so rewarding to watch them learn and grow!

My Project

The iPad minis will complete the learning center that I created for my students last year. The Ogden School Foundation generously gave me a grant to purchase Osmos for my kindergarten class. I allowed my students to use my personal iPads and I was so thrilled by their response to the Osmo! My students were eager to do number activities, spelling activities, tangram puzzles and they especially loved creating their own stories with the Osmo Monster! They were so engaged in the activities in the Osmo center and all the while they were practicing many of the things I was teaching in my classroom!

I like having two students in each center because they love to share what they are doing!

I hope to be able to receive funding to purchase two iPad minis so that I can complete the center without having to remember to bring my iPad to school for the children to use.
