This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The 2nd grade students at our school come from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles; they have various learning styles to accommodate.
They are enthusiastic about learning and are very social!
They build each other up and do their best to succeed. When students have more tools to solve problems and complete projects, they have more opportunities to achieve their goals confidently. In order to further enrich the academic experiences of our students, we are excited to begin a second grade cohort with technology in the classroom each day.
I teach at a dual-language (Spanish/English) school, with a population of diverse learners.
99% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Despite socioeconomic constraints, they come to school each day eager to learn and try new things.
My Project
My students need daily access to laptops. The daily use of the laptops will help my kids to pursue their interests and gain crucial technology skills and comfort navigating them. Our eventual goal is to have a laptop for each student. In order to make this goal a reality, we are hoping to obtain 4 laptop computers at time, until we reach 10! As the number of laptops grows, students will become more comfortable selecting the tools they need to achieve their tasks. Students will use the laptops to conduct Internet research, use educational websites like Newsela, and create written documents and multimedia presentations for our end of the unit celebrations in reading and writing. They may also use reading apps to access materials not in our library and practice their phonics skills. We look forward to laptops increasing collaboration between students and providing more options for them to achieve their goals.
