My class is a group of diverse learners from different backgrounds who have to learn to work together in different ways. Unforeseen, face to face instruction and social interaction has taken a turn for a moment. With everything going on right now, they need an outlook to express their knowledge in various forms such as games, documents, videos, etc.
Since they learn differently, I have to make sure my virtual classroom is suitable for their learning needs.
Technology is becoming the future and I want my class to be as equipped as they can navigating it.
My Project
My class deserves the chance to hear me clearly while providing them the best digital lessons with these headphones and laptop! I really don’t have a reliable laptop to meet all of my students’ learning needs. Some resources I want to use are either blocked or certain components are restricted. For example, video features are essential during virtual instruction, yet I cannot see my entire class on the platform or break out into small groups from one joining link. That makes it difficult for my entire class, including myself because this is the only time we’re able to see each other and not have to click on different links to teach small/whole group lessons. Each child in my class has a pair of headphones to hear me clearly while I’m teaching and I feel bad for having them repeat themselves because I can’t hear their response through my speaker. This impacts their confidence because some kids are nervous answering out loud which is a reason why headphones are essential for teaching.
Now, planning is more difficult than ever because you don’t have hands on learning yet still have to differentiate instruction with a new set of students.
It’s the type of learning that is not ideal for anyone but is the safest option. To be honest, this could very much be the future of education. Creativity is a must to keeping students engaged, not only virtually but for whenever we go back to the classroom as well. This requires a lot of planning and I honestly need the best technology to help with that. I’ll have the opportunity to create and share documents/presentations/links for students to edit in addition to interactive Bitmoji classrooms. These items will help students adapt to this new way of learning while still growing academically!
