This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"If you can't beat them, join them!" The use of paper, pencils, and crayons are in a decline because of the world of tablets and iPads. As a pre-k teacher, I have struggled in teaching the basic skills of writing. Children these days lack the fine motor skills of using crayons and pencils.

My 3-4 year-old pre-k students are very enthusiastic learners.

We are at a Title I school with a very high percentage of students and families living in low income homes. Most of my students are English Language Learners. While poverty and language can present barriers for students, we are learning not to let our challenges get in the way of education. As their teacher, it is my job to create excitement in their daily routines at school in order to make their school experience fun and worthwhile.

My Project

Apple has done a remarkable job in opening doors in the area of education. With a great array of apps to choose from, iPads can now be used to learn things as simple as handwriting. Of course, the use of iPads to write does not replace the actual use of pencils to write and crayons to color. However, they can be a stepping stone in introducing these basic skills to students as young as three years-old. Once they have learned the basic skills of using the iPads, we can move on to using them with the various apps that are tailored to their age and learning styles.

Each child born in this era have seen tablets, computers, and video games.

Their interest in using these devices are heightened because they are interactive, engaging, and fun. As a teacher, my students' world will be opened in ways unimaginable with the use of iPads in the classroom.
