My Students

“Curiosity is the engine of achievement,” written by Ken Robinson, speaks to how we need to best prepare our students for the twenty-first century. Our students are at the point where they love to be independent, try new things, and explore. In my classroom, I have students do research projects, explore various online resources, and practice core skills. My school consists of a wide variety of students with different abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students want to learn, but some do not have access to the technology that they need.

My Project

Help me give my students a Lenovo 300e Chromebook so they have access to timely news content at the appropriate reading level. Students will also use this Chromebook to complete research projects and to publish their own writing.

Donations will allow my fifth graders to connect with new technology and gain experiences that will help them become digital citizens and innovators of the future.

Using the Lenovo 300e Chromebook, students will have the ability to access Newsela. Newsela is an incredible online reading resource full of relevant and engaging, current content. Students can read about up to date news as well as cultural and scientific happenings. Newsela offers curated text sets to support literacy. The Lexile level can be adjusted to meet the needs of individual readers.
