My students need an iPad and a keyboard so their DIBEL scores show what they know. Better behavior means more learning. Our class will have access to more technology.
I have always put an emphasis on human interaction based communication in my room. In the first year of school, it is imperative that they learn social skills. However, my students should have access to educational tools that have become necessary in today's technological 21st century society.
I have twenty-three kindergarten students who are eager to share what they know and are excited to learn more.
Many speak more that one language.
Our school is a Title 1 Affiliated Charter. We don't have access to state and district funds that Title 1 schools receive. That leaves a school like ours with hardly any funding for much needed new technology.
My Project
My school district requires that I administer DIBEL (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessments throughout the year. Using a laptop and a mouse, my student don't score as well because it is difficult to maneuver the mouse from the answer to the next question quickly. Testing with an iPad would give a truer account of what they know. I would use the iPad as a behavior modification tool. According to special education teachers that I've spoken to, offering tablet usage time as a motivator should have positive results in staying on task and following rules. My general education students would benefit as well. I have purchased a couple of technology teaching tools. Having an I Pad would give my students an addition technological tool to use.
My classroom test scores will reflect the teaching and learning that occurs on a daily basis.
Improved classroom behavior leads to more teaching and learning. Thus, the students should have a better kindergarten experience. Increased access to technology will enhance my student's learning.
