Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My room is extra special because I have students with "super powers" in my classroom. I teach a special day class with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. Each of my students bring something very special and unique to the classroom. In addition, each of them qualifies to be in my classroom based on a variety of disabling conditions which classify them to receive special education services. Not only do all of my students have "super powers" or special needs, but they also come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. This means they may lack emotional, educational, and financial support or stability in their home.

My Project
We are requesting an Amazon Echo in our classroom to assist with time management, independent learning, and assisting in learning and being detectives of math, language, and reading. This Amazon Echo would provide our students with alternatives in the classroom to reinforce their learning while also working as an accommodation to learning, since our classroom encompasses students on the autism spectrum.
Technology is so reinforcing.
For students with disabilities, specifically autism, technology provides them support and the ability to accomplish many skills independently. The Amazon Echo would provide them with these types of skills, that also allow them to be reinforced. We are also in desperate need of a pencil sharpener. The sharpener on the wall doesn't crank any longer and the sharpener that plugs in, takes about 3 minutes per pencil to sharpen. The combination of this technology with Alexa and a pencil sharpener will provide our students with many of the technology tools they need.
