This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very bright, motivated, young learners in a Special Day Class, Grades: TK, K, 1, and 2. They are in my class to receive individualized instruction to meet their unique needs. The class is a mix of students with varying disabilities.

They are very happy students who love to learn and use tools to explore their imaginations.

They learn very well when accommodations and modifications are implemented to strategically target their educational goals. With the right materials, technology, and environment, they are guaranteed to strive!

Our school is a Title I school in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood with most students receiving free or reduced price lunch. The students and families come from various backgrounds and needs and most cannot afford to donate to our classroom.

My Project

I have one old hand me down computer from 2004 from the computer lab because it was "too slow" for test taking. It is not useful to me or my students because it is outdated, slow, and not able to access the internet without freezing, error messages, and headaches. This year, our school district adapted a brand new Language Arts curriculum which has a very large and impressive digital platform. Each student is provided with a username and password to access their personal learning accounts. However, it has not been possible to utilize the online platform this year due to the lack of working technology in my classroom.

My students need to be able to access the online curriculum to play interactive games, listen to ebook stories, take online tests, and learn to explore the online web through research methods.

My goal with this project is to receive 1 new Windows desktop for the students to be able to use to explore the new curriculum's online materials as well as the IXL math program our school adapted. In addition to this, I would like to teach my students research methods and safe internet and computer practices.

Although my current desktop computer is slow and outdated, the monitor is still useful! So, I thought of the idea to request a Mac mini desktop to plug to the monitor to become a whole new computer itself. This way we can reuse the monitor so that we can have 2 working computers to make a "computer center."
