Help me give my students a teacher with the best in technology to provide them with engaging lessons that will open up quickly for them o keep them motivated and participate in class instead of waiting.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a large urban area where the majority of my students are part of the free lunch program and come from low socio-economic home environments. Having money for food and other household expenses takes priority over buying learning games, books, or technology. This is my Kindergarten student's first school experience. I want them to develop a love for reading and learning and I need to do that virtually through Zoom.
Due to the pandemic, we are learning virtually and lack many of the resources that we used daily in class to make the lessons more invigorating such as manipulatives and hands on activities.
In order to engage my students into my daily lessons, I have learned how to use a variety of platforms that use manipulatives and get students to actively participate instead of just staring at the screen. Even though we are online, my Kindergarten students come excited to class and remain online with me wanting to participate and be acknowledged.
My Project
Having an Apple iMac computer will be a game changer in my virtual lesson delivery and being able to see all their facial expressions on one screen. The computer I currently use has many lessons, slides, and multiple tabs of lessons and platforms opened to have quick access and not loose precious times. My computer is working to its fullest, but is to slow to meet with the demand that I need. Being able to load a platform such as Nearpod, Seesaw, Schoology, Google slides, and others will keep my Kindergarten kids from being easily distracted. Most importantly I will be able to see all my students on one big screen. With my little ones, they are on two pages on Zoom and I need to make sure that they are all participating and feel that they are being acknowledged. Seeing them on a small screen keeps me from being able to call on everyone since I can't always see them. For little ones it's hard for them to understand why I can't see them if they can see me. I want them to be able to see their expressions in order to see if they are understanding and participating.
