Can you imagine being a 5th grader and never having access to a computer in school? My students need your help. They need a classroom that has the technology suitable to prepare them for the 21st Century.
I am a teacher in a public school that is located in an urban district.
My classroom consists of 18 students, 16 of which are English Language Learners. My students all have varying levels of English ranging from completely understanding spoken and written English, to not understanding any English at all. The majority of the students are Spanish speaking and are embracing the opportunity of helping their peers learn how to speak and write in English. My students have very little access to technology within our school. Our school has only one working computer lab for over 700 students K-8 and no computer teacher.
My Project
I am requesting three laptops, two ipads, an audio visual cart and a document camera for my classroom. If my project is funded I will finally have a classroom where groups of students can be working on projects while I am meeting with other groups. Students will not only be engaged, but they will be learning necessary technological skills to better prepare them for the future. They will be comfortable using laptops so when they have to take a high stakes test on a computer they are ready and able. They can focus on the content and not on how to maneuver around a computer. My students who are not fluent English speakers will also be able to use ESL on-line programs to work on their fluency when I am not able to work with them directly.
If my project is funded my students will have the same access to technology of their peers in suburban schools.
My students will be more engaged and more apt to bring the learning home and continue their work outside of school. They will be able to build more independence while at the same time becoming more proficient with technology. This project will make a huge difference in the education of my students.
