This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember looking down at a worksheet with the teaching saying point to number 7 and you don't know what number that is? This is a problem facing some of my students.
I have 18 energetic Kindergartners that attend a full day Kindergarten class.
They are from a high-poverty community with 99% of the students receiving free or reduced price lunch. This school is the original school building built in the 1960s. It has had some repairs but many classrooms have water stains on the ceilings and a cool draft comes in from the leaky windows. Besides many of the cosmetic disadvantages the school contains, the community is very committed to the academic achievement of each child. Everyday many of the students come in anxious to learn and to "grow their brains." Even in Kindergarten students are aware of the power of education and its power to get you to and through college.
My Project
I am asking for a document reader. With this document I hope to be able to project worksheets, model writing, and have students share their work. Many students struggle with work given because they are unable to understand all the verbal directions. With the document camera visual learners will be able to follow along and complete different worksheets. Next, having a document camera will help me model writing. Students will be able to watch me writing just like they will be doing. Last, having their work projected on a big projector screen will motivate students to do their best on their work!
The addition of a document camera will allow students to complete worksheet more accurately, better modeling of writing, and motivate students to share work.
Please consider donating to help my students blossom into life-long learners!
