Technology Needed for Inclusion Classroom

My students need an Apple iPad to allow their education to thrive through the use and mobility of technology.

My Students

I want to empower my students through the use of technology...one iPad at a time! My students reach out to new technology. Unfortunately, it's not readily available beyond the 2 student computers and Smart Board in my class. The opportunities that are available through the use of an iPad are endless.

My inclusion classroom is made up of special needs and general education students.

The students in my classroom come with varying skills. I have students with speech impairments and special needs disabilities mixed along with regular education peers. The eager 5 and 6 year old kindergartners love the limited technology that is available in our classroom; however, it is very limited due to our school's available funds. Our school is a Title I school. That means that we have a high ratio of free and reduced lunches based on family's incomes.

My Project

I am requesting an Apple iPad and smart cover for the students in my classroom to use throughout their full day. The iPad will be used in our daily math and literacy stations. It will also be utilized for whole group lessons. I can reinforce skills taught and give student guided practice in small groups through the thousands of apps available. My students will create stories using Puppet Pals and be able to share them with their classmates and parents. We will use the camera to capture 2D and 3D shapes around our school and make a labeled slide show upon returning to class. My class will create stories through pictures, dictation and text. The students can tighten their fine motor skills while using the touch screen also. My students will learn how to actively participate and collaborate to build a project together, which is such a vital skill needed in life.

My project is important because I have students with such varying needs in my classroom.

The instant feedback that is given through the iPad is crucial for all learners. My ability to differentiate the skills and needs for my students based on their levels is smooth with the use of the iPad's app store and features. I am refining my teaching skills frequently to meet the needs of the new generation. I want to help my students be most successful from the start of their education!
