Help me give my students access to technology while they are home bound. My students are the ones with the most needs. They need technology to access my virtual Google Classroom. Please help!
I have a number of special needs students that have a variety of disabilities. About half of my students are autistic, but all of them need supports for them to access the curriculum. The vast majority have sensory needs, and really benefit from the use of manipulatives and technology. Further, they need to have a concept presented using multiple contexts so that they make the transition from a fundamental concept and can apply it across contexts. Also, the vast majority have fine motor delays that require a lot of adult supports for them to access the curriculum. These students have very limited background knowledge and need a lot of peer interaction to assist in the development of social skills.
They are very special and unique students that have an amazing thirst for learning.
They are serviced within the regular education population in an inclusion classroom environment, and for this reason, need a lot of practice with appropriate peer interaction. As a special education teacher, I really believe in making these supports accessible to their non-disabled peers so that it does not draw attention to my special needs students.
My Project
Much like most of the United States, my special education students are home bound. Seven out of my eight students do not have access to technology. I am trying to get them access to technology so that they can access my virtual classroom. These are the students that need the most access to curriculum so that they do not fall further and further behind. If I can provide them with a tablet to access my Google Classroom and the software programs designed to meet their needs, they can work on developing key foundational skills from home. Please help!
