My students need Chromebooks and a Charging Cart to help compete with wealthier schools to help level the playing field.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are some of the sweetest and most deserving that I have ever had. Some live in the Homeless Shelter. Others live with Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and still others come from families where both mom and dad are still together. Thankfully you would never know any of this from observing their eager faces during a Science Experiment or doing group work to solve math problems.
What I have found to be true, is the classroom really can be the great equalizer.
Not everything in life is necessarily equal or fair. The best thing about being a teacher in an inner city classroom is the excitement they feel when they get to put their hands on something and learn.
Earlier this summer I attended a technology training that really excited me in the endeavour to advance my students. The Chromebooks in particular have a tool that the students can use to help with their writing. It's a dictation tool, that lets the student say a sentence into the microphone, and then the sentence appears for them to write in their journals.
What an exciting and powerful tool to help advance the writing skills of my students in Math and Science!
We will be placing special emphasis on reflecting through Math journaling this year. These Chromebooks will remove the frustration of spelling, and as speaking comes naturally where writing does not, students writing will absolutely skyrocket! I'm so very excited about this! As they copy their sentences into their journals, they will be learning spelling rules and correct spelling, while able to focus on the higher level mathematical concepts.
In order to keep the Chromebooks charged and secure a Charging Cart will accommodate both needs. It will be a good lesson for students to learn to take care of and manage our classroom technology.
