Technology is our future! Every year I have students that truly struggle with writing and it is very difficult for them to be successful. Put them on a computer however, and it's magic! I am requesting three laptops and earphones to help my struggling students be successful writers.
We have a diverse school with many needs.
We have students that are gifted and talented and need to be challenged. We have students with learning disabilities that need extra time, support and attention in order to be successful. We have students of all races and backgrounds. We have students with ADD/ADHD, autism, emotional disturbances, and other disabilities. All deserve a good education and the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and loving environment.
My Project
When I see my students struggle with writing, it breaks my heart. They feel frustrated and defeated. When I put those same kids on a computer, they are excited and are able to focus better and truly succeed. They are so excited when they see their completed work. And the amazing thing is, many of them are truly gifted writers. When you take out the handwriting part the mental block is taken away and these students are able to succeed.
My classroom currently only has two very old computers that are on their last leg.
With these laptops I can reach struggling students and help them to become successful writers. They can use these right at their desk, and can be easily stored so they don't take up tons of precious space in the classroom. I can also use them with my higher achievers by letting them "publish" stories they have written. The amazing thing about computers is there really is no end to the possibilities!
