This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 5th graders live in a very rough neighborhood on the east side of Indianapolis. Even though they face a lot of difficulties at home, they do not let that get in the way of their education.
I teach at an urban school in Indianapolis where 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Most of my students take home a backpack of food for the weekend, so they will have something to eat while they are not in school. In spite of all of their hardships, last year we were one of the highest performing schools in our district. This is thanks to the hard work of our students and staff.
I want them to know they can achieve anything they set their mind to. Having projects funded will give them the necessary tools to do so.
My Project
Even though students today are technology experts, We have no iPads or computers for them to use in our classroom. I know if we had an iPad for the class to use, it would make them more excited about learning. I would use it during small group time or individual learning with students that need extra help.
This iPad will help my students perform better in Math and other skill areas.
The addition of technology would give my students a much needed boost of practice on different skills in a fun way. Students who are confident at school will be our leaders tomorrow.
