Help me give my students additional technology in the form of an Apple iPad for our kindergarten classroom.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Brodus-Yougha's classroom raised $453

My Students
Our elementary school is located in SE Washington, DC; where 97 percent of all students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches and free breakfast; and 25 percent of all students receive special education services. In my general education kindergarten classroom, 6 of my 15 kindergarten students have Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) addressing their various needs (ie., developmental delays, speech and language impairments, autism, and/or behavior challenges).
Most of these students have academic challenges in either reading and/or mathematics or have behavioral challenges and would benefit tremendously from additional technology in the form of an Apple iPad in the kindergarten classroom.
It should be noted, however, that all of my students are amazing, full of energy, and enthusiastic about learning! They come to school every day ready to learn something new, and they have shown so much growth and potential for excellence since their very first day of school back in August, which seems so long ago!
My Project
All of my students come to school excited to learn; and filled with lots of enthusiasm. One of their greatest joys in the classroom is completing either Lexia and/or ST Math, both computer interventions; or other educational websites that support their academic learning. For that reason, my students and I would welcome the addition of an Apple iPad to our classroom.
Its commonly held that "classroom technology can open new worlds for all students, but especially those from less advantaged communities."
Research has shown that "students who reported using computers moderately in the classroom did slightly better on assessments than those who did not have access to technology at all..."
My Special Needs' students have various disabilities, often coming from different backgrounds or households, and frequently have specific individual needs based on both academic and social emotional learning. These students would benefit tremendously from additional hands-on technology in our kindergarten classroom. In addition, it has been noted that "the purposeful and thoughtful association of technology and Gardner's multiple intelligences theory can benefit students throughout the learning process." Therefore, at this time, I am seeking an Apple iPad for my students.
Finally, kindergarten is the foundation of K-12 learning; and research has shown that our students profit most from a quality learning environment that involves hands-on technology. In this day and age, our kindergarteners must be both prepared and equipped for first grade and beyond. That being the case, your generous donations are an investment in our kindergarteners' future.
