We are an inner city Title I school in the Philadelphia school system. My 22 kindergarten students are enthusiastic about learning, especially learning to read.
Many of my students are early emergent and pre-readers, and expectations are high for kindergarteners, but I know they are up for the challenge.
They show up (our class had the best attendance in the school last month!) and they work hard. I am so incredibly proud of the people they are and how much they’ve learned already this school year.
With kindergarten students, small group instruction is so important. This is when I can give children support tailored to their reading level and emerging skills. While I rotate around the classroom, the other students are usually in centers.
I would love to have a “tablet center” where four kids could take advantage of our wonderful RazKids reading app which is filled with online books at just their level.
The Kindle Fire tablets are cost-effective and easy to use, kids love them, and will last for years to come. The technology teacher leader said that these tablets will be helpful to prepare the students since they are already using the Kindle Fires in the upper grades. I would be so grateful for your support.
