Technology is Guiding Our Students - Our Students Need It!
My students need an iPad and case to use the variety of applications available to improve reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing skills, and math computation skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
President Roosevelt said it best, "We can not always build the future for our youth but we can build our youth for the future."
Help my students as they are being built for the future. Technology is the future; if students don't get to use it they will not be prepared for their futures.
I work at a Title 1 middle school in Arizona.
Many of our students live in one or two bedroom apartments with multiple siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Ninety-seven percent of the students on campus get free or reduced lunches. The local food bank hosts a monthly giving session on our campus, so the families can come and get many things they can not afford to purchase on their own. Our students come to school carrying far more than their backpacks on their shoulders. These kids desire to be educated, they crave the learning and hands on tools provided at school.
My Project
The iPad mini will be used in a fourth to sixth grade special education resource classroom to provide students, who are easily frustrated with pencil and paper tasks, the opportunity to show what they know in a different manner. I work with many students who struggle with writing basic sentences, are currently still learning how to sound out words, and many are still trying to understand how to multiply 9 x 7. In my classroom students will use the iPad to work with a variety of applications that will engage them in games or activities to make the educational task more enjoyable. Another example; they will use a website called scootpad to go through lessons I teach in a technological fashion rather than the old fashion paper and pencil manner.
Anyone who is able to donate to this project will impact up to 30 students lives by making the school day more enjoyable.
They will have something to look forward to in class knowing that although the tasks ahead of them are challenging, it will be more fun when they come to resource because that is when they don't have to pick up that pencil, the iPad will help them do the work. It will show them a different way to be successful and success is what they need to feel.
