Help me give my students these wonderful books as our virtual library is very limited. My students loved the time we spared for book clubs within the classroom! Help me recreate this time while they're home!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These are unprecedented times. Never did I imagine that when my students and I said goodbye in March it would mean that it was our last day in the classroom. However, the year is not over yet! My students and their families make up a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community in the heart of Sunset Park, Brooklyn, N.Y.C; I have twenty-three amazing Self Contained English Language Learners in my classroom.
My students and I have embarked on the distance learning journey despite all challenges!
Many students have had to borrow computers from our school or the DOE, but many are dated and are not sufficiently compatible. I am amazed by their level of engagement and participation, and families' willingness to try new things.
My Project
Please help me give my students learning materials for home and remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are not able to leave their homes due to the quarantine in New York City. My student loved taking home their "book buddy bags" filled with books I've collected and purchased over the years, but they didn't know the last day they were in school would be the last day in the building until the following school year. I've created a virtual library, but they've often expressed the lack of interest for sitting by a computer for hours on end, and the limited materials (including books) at home.
My students need tangible books to enjoy the beauty of reading!
These wonderful books will bring them joy and brighten their day if only for a moment! These books will be mailed directly to my student's home.
