Help me give my students by giving up this desperately needed technology. We currently have no way of seeing images in our world language classroom and would love to be able to explore the world outside.
My students are from the surrounding Hazelwood East neighborhoods. They are 100% African-Americans. My students are taking Spanish as an elective but most are really excited to learn how to speak Spanish. Even though they probably had never thought about it before they received there schedules, they are open to the idea of being bilingual. East Middle School is in it's first year. My 8th grade students will be the first ones to attend the high school. It is very exciting.
It is so important for students who are visual learners to be able to have access to technology. Currently, they do not have access to a projector. It's such a disadvantage for them. Having this projector will open up a whole new way of learning for them. Things will become much more clear. I can't wait to give this opportunity to them. We are unable to watch videos or do things like Movie Talks and Picture Talks which are essential when learning a foreign language. My classroom is set up so that the students are always talking about things that are important to them. Without being able to show images of real-world things, it is extremely difficult to bring the outside world inside the classroom. This projector will make a world of difference!
