Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager, active, curious, and imaginative hands-on learners. My students are engaged daily in a rigorous, integrated academic curriculum, which includes a high emphasis in STEM learning. Students live in a high poverty, metropolitan city and attend a Title I school. Our inner city school lacks the funding to access supplemental learning materials.
My students show up to class daily and work diligently to overcome the many challenges they face living in the inner city.
My students enjoy working cooperatively and display great creativity. Parents continually seek the best possible educational opportunities for their child. Additionally, I believe children benefit from experiences that include discovery, exploration, awakening curiosity, and an appreciation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad, microphone, and capes to help students express their learning through theater art and language arts. One of the great uses for an iPad in the classroom is the combination of art and literacy through the use of hundreds of apps plus it's video recording and editing capabilities. The access to these apps allows students to scan or upload their own original super hero theater art creations and video skits as inspiration for creative writing. They can then produce an original, digital work of literacy through writing a script for their super hero skits. This makes students become active participants in the creative process by integrating the curriculum and taking ownership of their learning. The possibilities for creativity and critical analysis of art pieces are endless. Students will use the microphone to record their super hero skits as they dress up in their capes. They will have an opportunity to collaborate and share their creations with their peers as well as critique each other's newly created works. In the process, they will improve language arts fluency.
Please help my students develop a love for creating original theater art with the help of technology.
These worthwhile experiences will provide them with opportunities to immerse themselves in imaginative literacy art projects, and meet Common Core reading and writing standards. With your generosity, the iPads will facilitate this innovative learning.
