My Students
Our students are full of potential and deserve the best of opportunities. They have a natural curiosity for learning, which is ignited and intensified in an optimal and conducive learning environment. We are speech language pathologists working with children who have mild to severe communication disorders and/or learning disabilities. It is very rewarding to see the students working so hard and making progress. As educators we feel it is our duty to provide our students with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
My Project
We are requesting a document camera and a whiteboard to be able to project learning material within the speech/language therapy room. The speech/language room where we provide therapy is quite small. Our goal is for our students to “tune in” and attend to the work being discussed in speech/language therapy. Most of our students work on improving their language and communication skills. As a result, we use a substantial amount of reading material, which is usually presented in paper form (i.e. copies distributed to students).
Having a projection of an article, story, or excerpt, would allow for more active engagement and participation from my students.
The students would be able to read along as we read aloud. They would have a direct model annotating main ideas, key details, text evidence, and vocabulary words within a given text. This would assist them in achieving eventual independence with their work.
We provide services to speech/language students in a small room. We currently have access to one desktop computer and we use our own personal laptops to engage students in lessons involving technology. The document camera would enhance our learning environment because it is sturdy, portable, and easy to use. Using the document camera with a whiteboard would be the easiest way to bring more practical technology in the speech room.
