This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember how wonderful it was when library catalogs were transferred to computers? It makes finding a book so much easier. Yet I only have one very outdated computer in my library that serves up to 36 students at time.
We are title one school with a population of over 600.
Our children are very diverse and have a strong desire to learn. We range from children that don't speak any English to children that read at a high school grade level. Many of our children do not have access to the technology that other schools can provide.
My Project
I am asking for two Chromebooks to assist the students in finding books. I am the only person in the library, and trying to assist up to 36 students at a time is very difficult. Many times I cannot help students find a book they are looking for. The Chromebooks will allow students to find books they are interested in, and their portability is perfect for my overcrowded library.
This project will give the students the independence they need to search for books in the library.
It will allow them to put books on hold that they are interested in so that they are available the next time they come to library. It will also give them the skills to understand the way the library functions and when they get to middle and high school they will be able to walk into the library and help themselves.
