This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Algebra is all about understanding solutions on a graph. So what better way to investigate these solutions, then with graphing calculators?
My school, as well as many others have faced severe budget cuts.
Normally, I would have been given money to buy supplies for my students. However, I have not received extra money for three years now. I would like to buy these calculators to enhance the learning in my classroom.
Many of my students come from a low income household. The option of purchasing a graphing calculator on their own is not realistic. I would like to provide these students with access to technology in the classroom.
My Project
By using graphing calculators in the classroom, the students can investigate higher levels of problems by being able to look at graphs quickly instead of graphing with pencil and paper. Students can also check their own answers by first graphing without the calculator and then comparing with the solution the calculator gives them.
This project is important because it will give my students an opportunity to access a higher level of mathematics understanding.
It will also teach them how to use technology, so they can be prepared for education past high school.
