This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

While my students come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and neighborhoods, they have many similarities; the most significant is their desire to strive for excellence in everything they do. This characteristic is a building block for learning if we have the opportunity to develop it. One issue they all have in common is the lack of resources available in the community.

We are a Title I school where the majority of the students are English language learners and come from predominantly Spanish-speaking homes.

Many of our students are newcomers to the United States, and many have experienced trauma in their short lifetimes. They live in a community far from libraries or other educational resources within walking distance for our students. Despite the lack of access to outside areas, my students have been able to develop a love of learning and cooperation.

My Project

What we learned from distance learning is that technology in the classroom is a powerful resource. Students thrive and are more engaged when technology is implemented in their learning.

Students were given Chromebooks this year in each classroom to support technology and their learning using an application called iReady to strengthen their math and reading skills, but they do not have headphones to engage in this application in order to stay focused on their own adaptive learning paths.

I want my students to be able to stay focused and engaged in their lessons, so by giving my students their own set of headphones, this will support their learning and create a more successful learning environment within the classroom.
