This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in the inner city of Miami, Florida.
The school populations is 76 % African American and 24% Hispanic.
My students' ages range from 10 to 13 years of age. They come from low income homes. More than half of my students are being raised by grandparents and very few have access to computers at home. About 30% of them have already repeated a grade in Elementary School. My students do not often get the opportunity to travel far from the neighborhood where they live.
My Project
Our students come from mostly low income homes and therefore they do not have access to computers. There are many educational programs available for them to improve their math and reading skills but they access to computers.
Students get excited to use programs and to learn when the technology is available to them.
Having these laptops would encourage them to engage in these educational activities that will help them be better learners. They need encouragement and positive feedback. In addition, they need exposure to the educational tools that will help them improve their math skills.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
